 THE richest African American off the 20^thcentury, the world billionaire, a philanthropist and a television pioneer – Oprah Winfrey dons many hats. Her rags-to-riches story is charged with determination ,courage  and strength.

Oprah’s childhood was marked by hardship and poverty. But her intelligence , exceptional communication kills and sociable nature made her popular in high school. She was noticed  by the local radio station and was hired a a part- time newsreader. Oprah worked in local media before moving to Chicago to host a morning talk show , AM Chicago . With in month the show became the highest rated talk show in Chicago. In 1986, it was renamed THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW and broadcast on national television. The show made television history as it went to attract 49 million viewer a week in U.S.A alone and was distributed in 150 other countries. A wide range of Topic were covered – women’s issues, politics, crime ,health, spirituality,celebrity interviews and more. Oprah won over hearts with her common sense, forthrightness and empathetic attitude. The show won more than 40 Emmys. It remained the number one talk show for 24 consecutive seasons until it last  episode in 2011. In November 2013, Oprah was awarded USA’s highest civilian honour , the presidential medal of Freedom ,by Barack Obama
